Social Media Spotlight:

22 Jun

It’s Wednesday and on today’s Social Media Spotlight we bring you a humorous Sports News blog site Flopping Out has steadily been increasing their loyal fan following using blog tactics loved by all, comedy. Reading a plain and informative article can often times induce drowsiness, but when reading an article with a comical spin to the facts presented, you are intrigued to continue reading. Integrating not only YouTube and other well-known social sites, has also incorporated a live talk radio for their fans to hear the news. We had the pleasure to speak with Nick Spano, co-owner of, about their social media initiatives, and here is what he had to say:

What social media platforms do you currently use?

N: Twitter and Facebook. There is nothing better than directly interacting with friends, family, and people who are fans and followers of your line of work. Not to mention, you can even get in touch with the President on Twitter. No joke, he is following me.

What value, if any, does social media provide to your business?

Tons of value, it allows our fans to see new stories, breaking news, LITERALLY anything we post, within seconds of us releasing it. It’s amazing.

Which social media platform works best for your business?

N: Well in the world of sports, Twitter has changed the game immensely. You can talk to your favorite athlete, writer, reporter, etc. and share with them your own work. I would definitely say Twitter.

How has social media impacted your business in terms of ROI and sales?

N: Well in the blog business, you generate most of your money on page views, clicks, eCPM = (Earnings / Page Impressions) so to get your stuff out there as fast and efficiently as social media networks allow, is huge. It has had a very positive impact on our ROI.

Do you have any advice for companies who are on the fence about social media?

N: Yeah, absolutely…DO IT! There really are no negatives about it. It can only help.  It is a great way to gain an audience and keep them engaged. Also, you are able to interact with important people as well as loyal followers.

Is there any social media strategy that you would like to improve or do differently?

N: Yeah there are a few things on Twitter I’d like to change. The limit of characters (not much you guys can do about that) the Direct Message platform, and also sending group tweets/messages. If they want to pay me I could make it work. I have great ideas!

Nick has a great grasp on how to use social media to promote and grow his following for his website. It was great to see that he realizes the ROI of social media can be measured by the amount of page impressions or clicks that your website or social sites may get.
