Social Media Spotlight: America’s LinkedIn Lady

6 Jul

Progressive Media Concepts, social media marketing, social media managementToday’s Social Media Spotlight proudly presents Carol McManus, America’s LinkedIn Lady. Carol is a marketing and social media consultant for businesses, who offers executive coaching and social media consulting. After leaving an executive corporate position, Carol decided she wanted to start her own business. She started using social media as a way to get known, and after much experimentation with multiple sites, invested her time in LinkedIn. By building relationships and adding value to the conversations in LinkedIn groups, Carol was able to gain significant recognition, and began to hold speaking engagements about her LinkedIn success. Initially, her speaking events were casual, but after noticing that there was a huge ignorance and fear factor associated with using social media platforms, Carol began offering consulting services.

Carol coined the name America’s LinkedIn Lady because her speaking events became weighted towards LinkedIn, so people would refer to her by that name. She decided to brand herself around the LinkedIn platform in order to correlate with her B2B marketing strategy and professional target audience. Although she works with all social media platforms, LinkedIn has greatly helped to differentiate herself from the other social media “experts.” She has even launched her very own product, the LinkedIn System for Success! Here’s an inside look at what Carol has to say about social media for businesses…

A Social Media Bubble?

10 Jun

Is there a social media bubble?Just like when anything has a rise in popularity, those sticking to their guns on the sidelines always have to raise controversy. So now that social media is the newest and hottest form of marketing and advertising, that must mean there is a bubble? A social media bubble you say? Like the dot-com bubble, right? Wrong. I mean, everyone is entitled to their own opinions on the validity or effectiveness of using social media. Most common arguments claim you can’t measure ROI, or that social media relationships are fake, or whatever people will say to negate the power of social media. The arguments are a dime a dozen and rarely backed with any good juicy information. I also read an article about this “social media bubble” on the Harvard Business Review, stating social media is creating artificial connections. This article is to those skeptics who see no true value in social media and or claim there is a “bubble” inflating…

Now I am not trying to call out this one article in particular, it is very well written with great points. The writer may just lack further insight into social media as a whole, as most of his arguments are based on opinion. Continue reading

LinkedIn Goes Public on the NYSE

20 May

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management LinkedIn, a popular social media networking site for business professionals, has officially made history. On May 19th, 2011, LinkedIn went public, offering 7,840,000 shares, and making it the first social media site ever to be publicly traded. Now this may not seem like a reason for celebration, except for the rapid increase in share price. The IPO was priced at $45, which within 24 hours has skyrocketed to over $100 per share. Any investor should be very happy with their return in only one day of trading.

If you aren’t already aware of what LinkedIn is or how it can offer you any sort of value, read about it here. Founded in 2003, LinkedIn has grown to over 100 million users in over 200 countries and offers its members a variety of amenities, such as connecting with professionals and providing a job database. Social Media Enters the Workplace. A Positive or Negative?

13 May

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management Social media in the workplace seems to be controversial at times, as the opposite view points on this matter can be both backed by valid arguments. If you are the CEO, manager or bottom shelf employee working your way up the corporate ladder, chances are you have used social media during work hours. Whether it’s on your phone, tablet or computer, admit it, you at least sneak a few peeks per day on your social networks. But let’s take a deeper look into whether allowing social media for personal use leads to increased or decreased productivity by employees.

Social media was once primarily used for personal social interaction, as there wasn’t much to offer businesses on a marketing standpoint. But over time, these social networks have integrated more and more ways for businesses in a broad range of industries to market their products to consumers. From a business owner’s viewpoint, I can see how using social media to market and engage your consumer is a positive aspect of these social networks. We have steered away from outsourced phone calls and emails that take weeks to get a response and shifted towards direct and sometimes immediate responses. Whether it is a positive or negative remark, comment or question, managers of these social platforms are always connected to these sites thanks to modern technology. Continue reading…

Professional Social Networking Made Easy. Thanks LinkedIn.

14 Jan

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management If you haven’t already signed up for a account, it’s about time to jump on the band-wagon. Not only are users keeping up to date with friends and colleagues, they are open to a vast network of job opportunities, as well as the ability to contact individuals who may not be readily available to the general public.

LinkedIn shifts away from the globally understood concept of what social media networks are; i.e. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and puts more emphasis on networking on a business-professional level. Now keep in mind, LinkedIn is not solely for personal use. Company profiles give LinkedIn users the ability to connect with not just employees of a given business, but with the business itself (granted the company page is usually run by 1 or 2 employees). Nevertheless, sharing your network with businesses and companies that interest you and are in the same industry as yourself, the abundance of informative content supplied never gets old.

LinkedIn is a job recruiter’s utopia. Don’t be surprised to have several recruiters wish to be added to your network. Their sole job is to expand their network mass, and they can be a very useful asset in looking for the last career you will ever search for.
