Social Media Helps Broadcast the Royal Wedding to Millions

29 Apr

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management If you aren’t aware by now that Prince William and Kate Middleton got married earlier today, they did in fact tie the knot. Those lucky
enough to be present at the wedding across the pond in London, had maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a children’s fairy tale play out in reality. For the rest of us, we had ample amounts of press coverage to experience this tale vicariously through the newlyweds. The advances in technology as well as social networking sites have provided the Royal Family with enough platforms to follow the wedding no matter where on the planet you reside.

Like any major event that takes place, media coverage from news
networks around the world broadcast  it live as much as possible to
gain a steady viewer base. CBS News, Fox News, ABC News and BBC, along with just about every other major news network, began coverage early in the morning EST, while some stations are still covering it live. But is traditional media coverage enough for today’s busy and constantly on-the-move society? No. Which is why on any social media site you log on to, there are links and advertisements on where to watch the Royal Wedding live on the Internet. Continue reading…

4 Feb

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management By now there is a good chance you have heard about the civil uproars going on in Egypt and the violence that has ensued. In a world connected primarily by social media networks, it only makes sense that activists would use these networking mediums as a tool to rally protestors and support from around the world in order to achieve freedom from an Authoritarian rule.

The use of Internet and social media networks was censored and eventually shut down for a brief period of time compliments of President Mubarak and his Cabinet. To the surprise of some, this strategy backfired and the protestors rallied back stronger than ever.

Social Media Battle of the Sexes: Part 2

2 Feb

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management As Nicole mentioned in Part 1 of our Social Media Battle of the Sexes, men and women are using social media in drastically different ways. Women are talkers, and use social media to gather and share information, advice, and news. For women, social media can often a personal tool, while also gaining information about new products and services. Men treat social media in an entirely different (and slightly more arrogant) way.

The Power of Social Media

28 Jan

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management
Many of you out there may not be aware of this, but there are some serious protests taking place in Egypt as of earlier this week. Now the main cause for these protests is an attempt to overthrow the current presidential reign of Hosni Mubarak, who has been in power since 1981. Claims of poverty and government corruption have led the Egyptian people to fight back. As of Wednesday, it was confirmed that Twitter has been blocked from being used on the Egyptian internet; a huge shock to anyone who is an avid internet user. More recently Facebook has been blocked from being used, as sources indicate Facebook was indeed the social media platform used to organize these protests.

The Interactivity of Social Media Marketing

19 Jan

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management In a world where Internet is king, questions continue to arise regarding the advantages of using social media as a marketing tool. The view of many is that social media remains a novel idea, with little potential to reach a substantial consumer audience. The overwhelming truth is, however, that social media’s application as a marketing tool for small and large businesses alike is growing nearly exponentially. Companies continue to adopt social media as one of their main marketing tools, and are seeing some incredible results. The advantage of social media in this case is, its innate interactivity.
