Facebook vs. Google Plus Round 2

8 Jul

Facebook vs Google+If you are an avid user of today’s social media networking sites, you are aware of the battle between Facebook and Google Plus for the supremacy of the social network industry. In round one, Google released the first wave of beta testing to select individuals, to test out the newest platform in Google’s arsenal to compete with Facebook. So far, all the reviews have been great and it seems as though Google has one-upped Facebook in terms of innovation and ease for its user base.

Except, there are two problems. One: Google is still in the trial phase and has not gone live for the general public since it is a closed testing. Two: Facebook has just fired back a combination of hits straight into the heart of Google Plus – video chat and group chat.

Networking: The Social Media Spider-Web

3 Jun

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management Social media marketing expands far beyond target based advertisements. Of course, the goal of any social media campaign is to market your product or service to a certain demographic, increase sales and not become a nuisance to the general public. But before you can actively and effectively begin to market your company to the consumer, you need to build a network, a proverbial web, to attract and catch your next paying customer.

Imagine your company’s social media campaign as a spider. You start from Point A, which is your present social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, your blog, etc., and begin to spread outwards to Point B. Creating this first connection takes time and effort, but will soon pay off. Networking is crucial in not only the increased following of your social network, but also the expansion of your brand’s name throughout the web. The more sites people see either linking to or from your social networks, the more credible you become. Continue reading…

20 May

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management LinkedIn, a popular social media networking site for business professionals, has officially made history. On May 19th, 2011, LinkedIn went public, offering 7,840,000 shares, and making it the first social media site ever to be publicly traded. Any investor should be very happy with their return in only one day of trading.

Social Media Enters the Workplace. A Positive or Negative?

13 May

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management Social media in the workplace seems to be controversial at times, as the opposite view points on this matter can be both backed by valid arguments. If you are the CEO, manager or bottom shelf employee working your way up the corporate ladder, chances are you have used social media during work hours. Whether it’s on your phone, tablet or computer, admit it, you at least sneak a few peeks per day on your social networks. But let’s take a deeper look into whether allowing social media for personal use leads to increased or decreased productivity by employees.

Social media was once primarily used for personal social interaction, as there wasn’t much to offer businesses on a marketing standpoint. But over time, these social networks have integrated more and more ways for businesses in a broad range of industries to market their products to consumers. From a business owner’s viewpoint, I can see how using social media to market and engage your consumer is a positive aspect of these social networks. We have steered away from outsourced phone calls and emails that take weeks to get a response and shifted towards direct and sometimes immediate responses. Whether it is a positive or negative remark, comment or question, managers of these social platforms are always connected to these sites thanks to modern technology. Continue reading…

A Social Media Easter Egg Hunt

22 Apr

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management We can all agree that the best part of Easter is going on the Easter egg hunts for hidden treasures or candy. Usually your competitors are your siblings, and or cousins, who are just as eager to get cavities as you are. But what happens when the competition goes from just a few people to thousands of people? The fashion label DKNY has embarked on just that – a scavenger hunt for eggs that enlists thousands of people as participants. Based out of their London and New York City locations, DKNY is using Twitter to send clues to their fan base on the whereabouts of chocolate goodies and other treats.

Clue number 8: “I’m a kitten but I don’t purr.”

Clue number 8 led a participant into the London store where a chocolate bunny rabbit was resting on a pair of black kitten heels. Continue reading…

Let’s face it, if you work in a company that employs over 10 people, the office can get a bit hectic. Whether you are working on a multi-million dollar project, or just wanting to update your address in the yellow pages, communication can sometimes break down and nothing gets done. A partial attribute to this, let’s call it lack of focus, may very well be the availability of social media. It is natural to become friends with coworkers and talk about weekend plans or even ideas for happy hour, but when it hinders business performance, it can also harm your career. Continue reading…

True Life: HTML and Website Design

8 Apr

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management So Friday has finally arrived, and this week has been a hectic one, with much more work to be done. The focus recently, other than managing our client’s accounts with the highest regard for success in mind, is the construction of our soon to be completed website. Now for anyone who has undertaken the project of creating a website, kudos my friend, we respect you. Most companies will hire web-savvy developers to create a site that fits the needs of a company or even individual, but who has that kind of money in today’s economy? Being in the social media industry, it would be bad for business to not do it ourselves. So what better way to prove our dominance in this industry, then to take a concept and get the job done ourselves?

HTML, CSS, JAVA, XML, FLASH… just to name a few of the ongoing list of coding languages needed to create a sufficient and well-suited website are the equivalent of reading a Chinese newspaper. Now I will not sit here and preach that I am above average on my ability to understand and write coding for a site, but I will say, aside from the stress and thought of smashing laptops on an hourly basis, I am having a ton of fun.
