Book Review: Marketing Shortcuts for the Self-Employed

6 Jun

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management When Patrick Schwerdtfeger contacted PMC through our blog to offer an advance copy of his new book, Marketing Shortcuts for the Self-Employed, I immediately took the opportunity to speak with him. A brief phone conversation led me to learn interesting things about Patrick; earlier he had self-published a book, Webify Your Business, and his new one is essentially an updated version. His first book received such great reviews that John Wiley and Sons, Inc. picked it up and published it. Because Patrick was very down-to-earth, educated in entrepreneurship, and extremely willing to network, I have decided to write a book review for Marketing Shortcuts for the Self-Employed. This book shares valuable information, tricks, and advice for any self-started business.

How Social Media Marketing Works for E-Commerce Business

28 Mar

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management It is a no-brainer that social media sites are excellent marketing tools for all types of businesses, but e-commerce sites have an advantage when it comes to using the different networks. For one, consider the e-commerce target market: online shoppers. People who spend their time on the Internet searching for products to buy are more than likely spending time on social media sites as well. This is just one reason why social media cannot be overlooked as a marketing tool within the e-commerce industry.

Promoting products and services on sites such as Facebook, Twitter and blogs are a great way to drive consumers to your site and make sales. Social media outlets are good tools for link building; therefore by posting URLs that link back to your site, you are more likely to see an increase in traffic. Social media gives businesses the means to direct traffic to whichever site they want, whether it be a product giveaway on a blog site or a link to a coupon. E-commerce sites have an advantage over brick-and-mortar businesses because their consumers are just a click away from their products and do not have to travel into a store.

The Google Farmer Update Affects Search Engine Results Page

25 Mar

Progressive Media Concepts - Social Media Marketing and Management We have all been the victim of it, searching something in Google and the first 3 results are either a page only filled with ads, or an article with a kindergarten reading level. It’s a shame that in the past, companies and writers have been outranked, not because their content wasn’t superior, but merely due to lack of website size compared to these “farms.” The algorithm update implemented by Google, dubbed the “Farmer Update,” has finally put an end to being out-ranked by garbage.

Now there may be a lot of confusion around what a content farm is. To explain it as simple as possible, I will take an excerpt from Bill Parlaman over at Radical Marketing Solutions,

“A content farm is a website that generates tons of content to meet high volumes of search requests.  Because these sites are so huge they tend to appear very high in the search engines.  Therefore these sites get a ton of traffic and make a killing through ad revenues. The problem is much of the content published is not very good. In the SEO world this is called “thin content”.”

The Beauty of Blogging

27 Dec

The Beauty of BloggingWhile creating and building Progressive Media Concepts’ blog sites, our team came across the differences, unique functions, and importance of WordPress, Tumblr, and Blogger. First off, each blog offers a variety of themes that are designed for use on their specific site. As a blogger, you have the option to choose from an array of free templates, or pay a one-time fee for a theme that is not as widely used in Blogland. The themes provided by WordPress and Tumblr are formatted in such a way that there is little room for layout customization. Blogger has a smaller selection of themes, but allows its users to rearrange and add page elements. You are capable of placing gadgets anywhere you want with Blogger, which helps to de-clutter the page and give it a more symmetrical look.
